Pattern Details
From the very first stitch, this pattern feels like stepping into a cozy countryside day, where the gentle rhythm of life is marked by mooing cows and golden fields. The Free Chunky Farm Cow Crochet Pattern brings to life Dotty, a sweet dairy cow with a heart as soft as her plushy body. She isn’t just a crochet project, she’s a character with warmth and personality, ready to charm anyone who sees her. With her spotted coat, gentle eyes, and playful bandana, she feels like the kind of cow who loves to wander through meadows, basking in the sun, and sharing her calm, nurturing presence with everyone around.
Working on this Farm Dairy Cow Amigurumi is an experience as delightful as the finished toy itself. Standing about 23 cm tall, Dotty has a strong, rounded body, sturdy little legs, soft ears, tiny horns, and a sweet snout that makes her instantly lovable. The design is thoughtfully written with step-by-step written instructions that flow naturally, almost like a tutorial with photos guiding you along. Though advanced in difficulty, it is deeply rewarding for crocheters who enjoy complex joins, invisible sewing, and shaping techniques. You’ll explore single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, increases, decreases, popcorn stitches, and clever oval constructions as you build her body. The doll is crocheted in parts, paws, body, head, ears, horns, tail, and even the optional bandana, before being assembled into a cohesive, life-like plushie.
Dotty’s unique features, like her off-white coat dotted with playful black spots and her little macadamia-colored horns, make her an irresistible stuffed cow plush pattern for anyone who adores farmhouse animals. Yet, she’s also highly customizable. You can give her a classic black-and-white dairy cow look, or experiment with whimsical shades like pastel pinks and blues for a soft nursery theme. Add a removable crochet bandana in cheerful light blue, embroider delicate details to give her more expression, or even attach a tiny cowbell to make her feel ready for the barnyard. Every small addition makes her personality shine brighter.
This crochet mini cow is versatile in how she can be used. She makes a perfect stuffed baby cow amigurumi for little ones to cuddle, a charming piece of farmhouse handmade decor that brings rustic coziness to your home, or a thoughtful handmade gift for someone who loves animals. Collectors of diy amigurumi plushies for beginners and advanced makers alike will appreciate her as part of a series of farm-inspired toys. And beyond being a crochet project, Dotty represents the gentle symbolism of cows in many cultures, nurturing, abundance, patience, and grounding. She reminds us of simpler times and the beauty of handmade traditions.
So as you shape her ears, stitch her snout, and gently embroider her kind features, let yourself feel the same calm that Dotty herself embodies. She’s not just a toy, she’s a reminder of warmth, care, and the joy that comes from creating something with your own hands. By the time you finish, you’ll have a plush companion that feels alive with charm, a dairy cow plushie that carries not only stitches, but also the love and time you poured into making her. Let Dotty lead you into a crochet journey where each round tells a story, and where handmade joy is always worth the effort.

Top 10 Expert Tips for Crocheting Perfect Amigurumi 🧶✨
1. Choose your materials wisely 🎀: The right yarn and hook make all the difference. I always reach for non-fraying cotton or smooth acrylic, paired with a slightly smaller hook to keep the stitches snug. If you’re unsure where to start, check out our complete yarn and hook guide.
2. Consistent tension is everything 🤏: Good amigurumi starts with even stitches. If your fabric feels off—too loose, too stiff—don’t power through. Take a moment to swatch and adjust. Learn how to fine-tune in how to master crochet tension.
3. Mark every round—no exceptions 📌: Even after years of crocheting, I still use stitch markers religiously. It’s not about memory—it's about precision. For more tricks I swear by, read our stitch marker tutorial.
4. Stuff slowly and intentionally 🧸: Overstuffed toys lose shape, underfilled ones collapse. I add fiberfill gradually, shaping as I go. There’s an art to it, and you’ll get it with practice—or by reading how to stuff amigurumi without wrinkles.
5. Sew with care and patience ✂️: Don’t rush the assembly. Seam invisibly, match edges, and always secure your threads deep inside. A clean finish is what sets great work apart. Follow the steps in professional amigurumi sewing techniques.
6. Texture brings life to your stitches 🔄: A little puff stitch here, a popcorn detail there—they add so much personality. When used thoughtfully, texture makes even the simplest design shine. See examples in creative crochet textures.
7. Use safe, secure details—especially for little hands 👀: I’ve made hundreds of toys for children, and I never compromise on safety. Reinforced safety eyes or embroidered features are always my go-to. Read my checklist in amigurumi safety and finishing touches.
8. Let color tell the story 🌈: Whether it’s muted earth tones or bright pastels, color changes everything. Don’t be afraid to experiment—just make it your own. If you need ideas, browse unique amigurumi customization ideas.
9. Document your process 📓: After so many years, I can’t count how many times notes saved me from repeating a mistake—or helped me replicate a success. Stay organized with our project tracking template.
10. Trust the process, not perfection ⏳: Some projects take longer. Some need to be unraveled. That’s okay. The magic is in the making. When you hit a block, revisit tips to keep your crochet momentum.

  Let's Get Started
Check off each row as you progress to track your steps.
Paws (make 4)
Start with Black yarn.
Change to Off-White yarn.
Fasten off the 4 paws. Cut 4 acetate circles to place at the bottom of each one.

  Teats (make 4)
Use Beige yarn.
Leave a long tail on each one to sew later onto the central base of the body.

  Central Base
Before we begin, set aside a long piece of Off-White yarn, approximately 30 cm.
Start with Beige yarn.
Change to Off-White yarn.
Do not cut the yarn, now we will join the 4 paws. For that, refer to Video 1 in the Playlist (Exclusive in the premium PDF version). But before that, sew the 4 teats onto the base, one in each corner of the Organza part, as shown in the photos.
From now on, the round numbering will follow the count of the paw rounds, so the round where we make the join is round 11. Continue the body instructions starting from round 12.
After round 14, pause to make the internal sewing of the 4 paws to the body. For this, use the yarn tail we set aside earlier and refer to Video 2 in the Playlist. (Exclusive in the premium PDF version)

  Body and Head
Stuff the paws.
As you work the decrease rounds, keep adding stuffing to the body. Add plenty of stuffing to make it firm, but do it gradually to avoid stretching the stitches or altering the shape of the piece.
Insert the eyes between rounds 50 and 51, 13 stitches apart, centered with the cheeks.
As you work the decrease rounds, continue adding stuffing to the neck and head.
Reverse MR and fasten off the piece. To give more expression to the face, you may indent the eyes and embroider eyelashes and eyebrows. The eyebrows were embroidered between rounds 57 and 58, 13 stitches apart.

  Snout
Use Beige yarn.
Leave a long tail to sew between rounds 43 and 50, centered with the eyes. But first, refer to Video 3 (Exclusive in the premium PDF version) to embroider the nostrils. After sewing the snout to the face, embroider the mouth on the side between rounds 2 and 3.

  Ears part 1 (make 2)
Use Macadamia yarn.
Fasten off both pieces.
Ears part 2 (make 2)
Use Black yarn.
Do not cut the yarn. Refer to Video 4 (Exclusive in the premium PDF version) to join the two parts.
Leave a long tail on each ear to sew them on the sides of the head, approximately at eyebrow level.
Use glue to secure them to the face.

  Horns (make 2)
Use Gray yarn.
Leave a long tail to sew on top of the head between rounds 60 and 65, as shown in the photos.
  Small Spots
Make as many as you like. Use Black yarn.
Fasten off to glue or leave a long tail to sew in the desired place.
Medium Spots
Make as many as you like. Use Black yarn.
Fasten off to glue or leave a long tail to sew.
  Large Spots
Make as many as you like. Use Black yarn.
Fasten off to glue or leave a long tail to sew.
  Tail
Start with Black yarn.
Add stuffing.
Change to Off-White yarn.
Fold the piece in half and make 2 sc across both sides.
Leave a long tail to sew between rounds 27 and 28.

  Bandana
Use Sky blue yarn.
Refer to Video 5 (Exclusive in the premium PDF version) to make the bandana.
